Diversity Leader, Author, and Podcast Host “Shaping the World into a Better Place;” Highlights Women Entrepreneurs at World-Changing Companies

RALEIGH, April 4, 2023 Inc. today announced its sixth annual Female Founders list, honoring a bold group of 200 women whose innovations and ideas are shaping the world into a better place. Each year, Inc. editors review thousands of applications highlighting female founders who are challenging the status quo and tackling some of the world’s biggest problems.

Jackie Ferguson, co-founder and head of content and programming at The Diversity Movement, joins the 2023 list, which features women who have overcome challenges and lifted those around them, all while leading transformative organizations. She joins the ranks of women leaders nationwide, including previous honorees Jessica Alba, Tracee Ellis Ross, Rihanna, and Shonda Rhimes.

“These 200 female founders have identified solutions to difficult problems and created valuable, industry-changing companies out of them. We congratulate this year’s list on their achievements and look forward to their continued success,” says Inc. Editor-in-Chief Scott Omelianuk.

Ferguson’s accomplishments are centered in her compassionate leadership, not only as an entrepreneur at TDM, but in her commitment to making lives better in the community and globally. In the past year, her “Diversity: Beyond the Checkbox” podcast has become one of the most highly recognized diversity resources, included in the top 5% downloaded in the world. The podcast provides a platform for C-suite executives, thought leaders, and change-makers to explore the full range of diversity, equity, and inclusion challenges and opportunities.

Ferguson also wrote The Inclusive Language Handbook: A Guide to Better Communication & Transformational Leadership. Demonstrating the critical importance of inclusive language in today’s workplace and society, the book has been read by tens of thousands of people in more than 15 countries, and its ideas have been implemented at world-class organizations. The Inclusive Language Handbook has sparked a revolution in the way people communicate.

“The Inc. list gives Jackie the global recognition that she has earned through hard work and dedication to the principles that motivate and drive her to excellence across so many areas of expertise,” said Donald Thompson, chief executive officer and co-founder at The Diversity Movement. “At The Diversity Movement, we’re a little spoiled, because we get to see these ideals in action each day. Jackie’s leadership helps power our efforts to create excellent workplaces and communities ready to authentically change the world.”

The women founders cross all industries and bring with them unique stories of success from each stage of the entrepreneurial journey – from startup to going public, being acquired by big buyers, or spending decades at the helm of an organization. They are reinventing everything from shoes to food and are challenging issues like financial literacy and reproductive health.
