What are the (CDP)® and (CDE)®?

Certified Diversity Professional

The Certified Diversity Professional (CDP)® credential indicates that a practitioner has the knowledge, skill, and ability to successfully execute day-to-day diversity and inclusion tasks.

The CDP certification course covers the following topics:

The Role of a Diversity Practitioner • The Business Case for Diversity & Inclusion • EEO Laws in the U.S. and Abroad • Harassment Around the World • Diversity Recruiting & Retention • Reinventing Diversity Training • Handling Difficult Conversations • Resource Groups & Diversity Councils • Empowering Women in the Workplace • Disability & Special Needs Accommodations • Generational Intelligence • Designing Programs for Veterans • Immigrant Groups in the Workplace • Navigating Through Religion & Belief Systems • LGBTQ+ Inclusion • Measuring the Impact of Diversity & Inclusion

Certified Diversity Executive

The Certified Diversity Executive (CDE)® qualification credential is designed to strategically position an organization to remove systemic barriers to inclusion, lead culture change, and transform the brand.

The CDE certification course covers the following topics:

Personal Awareness & Managing Blind Spots • Improving Your Approach to the Bottom Line • Global Best Practices • The Elements of Leading a Large-Scale D&I Effort • Race, Power and Privilege • Boardroom Diversity • Supplier Diversity • Innovation Through D&I • Impediments to Inclusion & Cultural Competence • Unconscious Bias • Executive Commitment & Sponsorship • Strategic Purpose & Partnerships • Connecting Demographic Shifts to Organizational Strategy • Integrating Cultures Amidst Merger & Acquisition Activity • The Next Generation of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Work • Advanced Data Insight and Analysis

Who should take the CDP and CDE certification course?

CDE and CDP designees include D&I practitioners but also Presidents/CEOs, School Superintendents, Administrators, and other senior leaders, as well as professionals who understand the importance of this business-critical competency in the fields of human resources, marketing, sales, hospitality, healthcare, retail and more. Research shows that D&I leaders and practitioners are more successful when they are able to connect D&I to overall company strategy and outcomes.

Certified Diversity Professional®

The Certified Diversity Professional (CDP)® credential is designed for individuals who are working with an organization in the beginning stages of their D&I journey. It is designed to expand the concept of D&I beyond political correctness or affirmative action, as well as apply best practices for creating the business case, engaging in strategic diversity planning, training, recruiting, resource groups, measuring outcomes, and more. It requires at least two (2) years of experience, which can be demonstrated in a variety of ways.

Certified Diversity Executive®

On the other hand, The Certified Diversity Executive (CDE)® credential picks up in the middle as it assumes that you already know the basics of D&I. The program is not based on one's title; it is designed for practitioners who support more advanced, complex or global D&I efforts. The CDE requires at least five (5) years of experience and a current leadership role (irrespective of one's title). Further, the CDE® is ready to remove systemic barriers such as bias or blind spots, as you seek to diversify more than your workforce. For example, the CDE may focus on diversifying the Board, suppliers, products/services, and more.

What is the investment?

The cost of the certification course is $2500 for the CDP® credential and $3000 for the CDE® credential.

The in-person time commitment of the course is 24 hours over 4 days within 2 weeks. The course is typically taught from 8:30-3:30 M/W or T/Th for 2 consecutive weeks with an hour lunch break. Additionally, you will receive a learning manual (approximately 300 pages) to study from in preparation of the certification exam. You will also receive access to the Learning Management System (LMS) to access a digital version of the learning manual, helpful study tools and additional information and resources.

The exam consists of 170 competency and skills questions, and you must score an 80.0% or above to pass. Additionally, each candidate must submit a professional project which demonstrates the candidate’s knowledge and ability to do the work asked of them. The project must be the candidate’s own work and have been completed within the last year. Group projects are acceptable, however they should note the members in the group and describe how individual candidates contributed to the project.
