Host Jackie Ferguson explores diversity, equity, and inclusion with business leaders, activists, and industry influencers

RALEIGH (June 7, 2022) – “Diversity: Beyond the Checkbox,” a business podcast hosted by Jackie Ferguson, Certified Diversity Executive and co-founder of The Diversity Movement, has been ranked one of the top 5% most downloaded podcasts in the world.

On the program, Ferguson interviews industry leaders and explores what diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) means to them. She also discusses why businesses should be focused on implementing diversity and inclusion initiatives, why DEI is the right thing to do, and how going beyond compliance – the checkbox – drives business excellence and long-term success.

“I’ve been able to reach a lot of people, really influence people, and that’s been an amazing journey,” said Ferguson, who is also Head of Content & Programming at The Diversity Movement. “Unless you’re challenging yourself and doing something a little bit scary, you’re not growing. I would encourage people to do the scary thing that helps you discover your purpose, because it really makes all the difference in the world.”

“Diversity: Beyond the Checkbox” is one of the top 5% most popular shows out of 2,855,126 podcasts globally, ranked by Listen Score, a metric that shows the estimated popularity of a podcast compared to all other RSS-based public podcasts in the world.

Launched in January 2020, the program has featured renowned guests such as hip-hop producer Lisa Cunningham, PGA of America Chief People Officer Sandy Cross, and transgender activist Precious Brady-Davis, among many other thought leaders, executives, and influencers. The podcast is produced by Raleigh-based podcast firm Earfluence

The Inclusive Language Handbook

Ferguson is also the co-author of the new book The Inclusive Language Handbook: A Guide to Better Communication and Transformational Leadership. The book was created to help executives, managers, frontline professionals, educators, and others make inclusive language a priority through an informative, compelling handbook that combines insightful analysis with real-world case studies and hands-on exercises.

“Almost every company in every sector has become a technology company. And technology leaders have a responsibility to respond to – and shape – the business culture in which we live and work,” said Bob Osmond, President, Racepoint Global. “The Inclusive Language Handbook provides clear guidance on how to embrace inclusive language, a key step to help overcome some of the tech industry’s intrinsic biases. This is a go-to resource for leaders who want to improve workplace culture and regain trust.”

MicroVideos by The Diversity Movement

Ferguson also spearheaded the creation of MicroVideos by The Diversity Movement, a micro-learning platform containing 550+ right-sized videos created so organizations and individuals can learn about DEI in the flow of work. Based on minutes of content created, the content in the MicroVideo platform is the equivalent of 28 full-length Hollywood films.

The MicroVideos library is organized in specific learning pathways like inclusive leadership, DEI vocabulary, Human Resources topics, LGBTQ+, the business case and return on investment, and allyship. Actionable takeaways help viewers put DEI principles into practice right away. MicroVideos are offered in DEI Navigator, a subscription-based membership that gives leaders at small- and mid-sized organizations the ability to have all the DEI resources of a Fortune 500 corporation – content, tools, and on-demand advice for DEI leaders.

DEI Navigator is everything leaders need, all in one place. Membership offers access to The Diversity Movement’s award-winning team of proven business leaders and certified diversity executives, along with expert curated content, how-to guides, specialized training, and a community of peers sharing their ideas and lessons learned – all at a fraction of the cost of hiring a full-service DEI consultancy.
